Board Members

Craig Taylor, Chairperson

I am passionate about the positive impact technology can play in people's lives. As a Trustee, I aim to support CCL to raise more funds to deliver vitally important counselling services and bring a wide range of experience from the corporate sector. I have been involved in NFP work throughout my career, from voluntary positions to establishing my own business to help farmers in Africa save livestock using smartphone technology. I live locally in Malton with my family.

Clare Mensah, Trustee

With previous experience of working in the public, charitable and private sectors, I have volunteered much of my free time over the last 17 years in a variety of educational settings.  As a trustee of a charity providing out of school care, and as a long-serving school governor, I have been involved in key areas including strategic planning, policy-writing, monitoring of provision, staff recruitment, appraisal and budget management.

My main passion, other than being with my large and chaotic family, is promoting the benefits of engaging in textile crafts in an increasingly complex, challenging and technological world.

Helen Fairburn, Trustee

Helen is an experienced Mental Health Service Manager and qualified counsellor.  She currently manages the counselling service at York Mind, which offers support for people aged 16+, having previously managed their mentoring service and was project lead for supporting people experiencing mental health move towards training and employment.  Helen initially joined Mind as a volunteer counsellor whilst completing her studies in Humanistic Integrative Counselling at York St. John University.

Prior to this she enjoyed a 20-year career within the Civil Service, holding various people and project management positions.  Helen is a passionate advocate for the positive benefits of counselling and the promotion of accessible community-based services for supporting mental well-being.

Helen Roberts, Trustee

Having served in the Royal Air Force [RAF] for 23 years as an RAF Medic, I am passionate about person-centred care and listening to the ideas of the service user.  I have volunteered to (hopefully) help develop care to ensure it meets the needs of those using the service.  I left the military for two reasons, firstly because I wanted a new challenge: I aspire to become a psychological well-being practitioner and secondly, having travelled around the world with my job, I felt it was the right time to settle down.. and where better than North Yorkshire.

Ian Brown, Trustee

I am trained as a Chartered and Incorporated Surveyor in Health and Social Government.  I progressed in managerial roles in Local Government, becoming a Service Director, aged 37.  Since the mid 90's, I worked in Property and Construction Consultancy, as a Director and Company Secretary.  I have worked as a Board member/trustee in the Further Education/Third Sector/Social Housing fields since 1996.  I am currently the Chair of Groundwork North East and Cumbria.  In my spare time, I enjoy walking, sailing and photography.

Mary Wishart

I have worked in the voluntary, arts and public sectors for the past 21-years, with a particular focus on mental health since 2008. I currently work for the national mental health charity, Richmond Fellowship.  I bring my skills and experience around business development, public sector contracting, fundraising, communications and marketing to my role as a trustee, as well as my passion for good mental health and wellbeing. I moved to Malton in 2016 and keep busy looking after my familiy, renovating a crumbling Victorian house and exploring North Yorkshire with the dog!

Management Team

Stephen Robling, Company Secretary and Chief Officer

I am an Accredited Member of the BACP and a qualified counselling supervisor and EMDR practitioner.  My original training was in Gestalt but I also incorporate CBT (Cognitive Behaviourial Therapy) techniques and life coaching skills into my practice.  My work experience includes being a Disability Employment Advisor and a Policy Advisor (Women and Equality Unit): I helped to set up the Equality and Human Rights Commission.  I have a Prince 2 certificate in Project Management.

A relatively recent arrival in York (just 10!) I enjoy living in the historic city but also being within easy reach of the magnificent North Yorkshire countryside.

Tracy Bramley, Part-time Finance Manager

I have worked within the charitable and voluntary sector for the past 25-years, helping large and small charities with all aspects of their financial responsibilities; in particular ensuring that they are financially compliant and operating as financially efficient as possible to enable long-term sustainability.

I am a qualified Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) and a registered Member in Practice, enabling me to also work self-employed, providing a variety of specialist charity accounting services and an independent examination service to charities with a turnover up to £1m.

Penny Howarth, Head of CHYP Services

I am an experienced BACP Registered Counsellor who has worked extensively with children and young people across West Yorkshire in schools and in other settings, as well as in private practice in North Yorkshire where I also work with vulnerable adults.  Prior to becoming a counsellor, I held senior management positions in the Food Standards Agency.

I have a son and two cats and enjoy running a rock-climbing in my spare time.

Admin Team

Angie Bannister, Administrator

I have worked in administration for many years, including the charity sector, and have been at CCL for 6 1/2 years. In this time there has been huge growth with many new services now being offered and I enjoy the challenges of administration in a busy office environment. I was born in Malton moving to York when I married but am now enjoying living back in Malton close to my family and grandchildren.

Julie Quick, Communications Assistant

Having previously worked in travel, the charity sector has been a new area for me and one I am very much enjoying. In addition to admin, I am responsible for the website and CCL social media as well as helping with funding applications. I live locally with my family and enjoy running and riding.
